I use these steps. I have a knowledge of salt,fat,acid, and heat from a netflix special. (Now my meals always come out great no recipe required). I use tiktok and youtube for inspiration. Ethan has taught me how to have a pantry stocked, organized, and heating methods.
Did this today does the type of salt matter? Mine was hella salty
I hate cooking sooo much. My son is bulking and needs 200grams of protein per day. I can make breakfast all day but shoot me for the rest
never thought of meal prep this way and its genius
My first thought, before I saw the advertising, a dutch oven meal. That's how I prep my meal for office. But I always make complete meals , e.g. one pot dishes. We do it also on sunday, and I cook more than we need. The rest of the one pot is divided into single meal portions and will be freezed. You don't have to eat the same meal several times, you take out the one you prefer that day.
Once in a while a prepare pulled pork and freeze it too. You can prepare before a party, or divide it to make laterin pulled pork sandwiches.
I used this method with some chicken thighs. Throughout the week, my kids and I ate Chicken sloppy joes, Chicken teriyaki, Chicken tinga tostadas, chicken chili, and chicken in alfredo sauce. I have 4 boys ranging from 11-17. We went through the 8lbs in 5 days. Will definitely use this technique again. For braising the chicken thighs, I simply browned them and then added chicken stock, onion, garlic powder, and a couple of teaspoons of poultry seasoning.
I braised the thighs on the stovetop for almost 1 hour. It was very easy, brought the ingredients up to a boil, then cut it back to a low simmer and started the timer for 1hr.
These prepped chicken thighs were also great for quick tacos. Take a can of El Pato sauce, a slice of onion, and half a clove of garlic minced, then fry it up just like you did for the tinga sauce. Toss in the chicken to coat and lay it on a warmed corn tortilla.

I'm not going to lie. Now I hate to be that person. But as someone too lazy to meal prep. This has GOT to be be THE MOST complicated Meal Prep I've ever seen. It's also lacking in nutrional facts which some of us do care about.

I gotta imagine the easy to hard steps for the pickled veggies are similar broken down steps. This video is great, as I have ADHDesolation brain when it comes to the task breakdown for meal prep.

Personally, I do a mix of both. I always meal prep at least 1 meal so I dont gotta worry about that, and then I also prep some sort of protein source for easy, approachable fresh meals.
It's interesting to me, as someone with ADHD, to see him list the effort cost of meal prepping. I'd never considered that it'd seem like a huge deal, because to me, doing any of those individual tasks is already a huge deal. Grocery shopping is an event. So is washing the dishes, cooking, eating, and planning. So, taking the time to do them all at once, it makes it much easier for me to manage. Because all those events are collected into one, and now I only have one day of pain instead of seven. And for the other six days, I barely have to devote any thought to eating (having only two or three pre-prepared foods means I'm not overwhelmed by choice), which makes everyday so, so, so much easier.
So, seeing meal prepping another way is really interesting to me. It's a great insight that I never would have otherwise realised

Also, with the beef braise thing, I immediately start worrying about electricity cost for running the oven for multiple hours straight…

I really appreciate this. I've had a similar idea for a long time, but haven't been in a living situation where I can do it consistently. But when that changes I'm definitely incorporating this into my routine. I think it should extend to other ingredients as well. Know you like onions? Chop a bunch once or twice a month into whatever size/length you prefer for certain dishes and then freeze them in batches. Other veggies take well to this, just look at all the bagged frozen veggies in supermarkets now.
I think it makes a ton of sense to extend this video's philosophy into the long-term and just have "emergency dinner components" in the freezer for those times when you're so wiped that even the weekly braising wasn't something you had energy for. And of course, these fattier cuts will stand up to freezing better than leaner options.
There's a last con for me with both cooking and mealprep: I'm bloody hungry when I realize I should make food. 😂
I have done this without noticing for a while now just because I'm vegetarian. So in the weekends I prepare my vegan protein (like chickpeas, lentils, mushrooms, etc.) and either leave in the fridge or freezer. During the week I see what I feel like doing, some days I will make it fancy, some days just rice, the vegan protein and some greens like lettuce or arugula.
I love the idea of meal prep, but ADHD makes it very hard. Because I end up thinking about all those tasks you mentioned and become tired Instantly. So I am excited to try this out!

Meal prepping feels like such a hectic mission to tackle. I’ve tried it many times but I usually end up extremely exhausted from all the thinking, planning, shopping, soaking, washing, cutting, cooking many things at the same time, and dividing only to finish it all with my worst nightmare, washing and cleaning up. 2 days later, I’m already bored of the meals I’ve cooked but I force myself to eat them anyway because I absolutely hate throwing food away. Also, the majority of components become tasteless or even funny smelling after 2 days or so. Food is supposed to provide nutrition yes, but it shouldn’t feel like a punishment, it should be flavorful and it should make us feel better. A pre-heated container good never provide this in my opinion.
