If you don't have a bike, is using an exercise bike a good alternative until I buy one?

Does spin class count for bike interval training?

I’m training for my 1st sprint. My bike is 26lbs but it’s all got for now. I bought some swim goggles and I’m pretty much good to go. The time is irrelevant. Giving it my all is all that matters.

Funny thing for me. I can swim all day and I’m fat, like 350 lbs, but I can’t run for shit 😂 signed up for Newport Cal Tri, 14 weeks out. Let’s fkn do this thing

For me I used to swim semi competitively, mind you 50m sprints, in primary school and be around water a lot. When I got back into swimming I could swim 100m but I would be so gassed, not panicked or anything. It took getting used to slowly breathing out to finally swim more than 200m+

I did 60 miles bike ride. I ran after and nothing wanted to move. Normally I can pace ~9:20 min mile. This dropped to ~15 min mile. I could only did 2 miles and stopped. Glad I found out now than later. Energy management seems to be tricky as well. Eating on a moving bike was not easy so I drank one Gatorade and one health bar for the entire 60 miles. I was fine on the bike averaging 15-16 mph. But it was a wrap at the end of the ride. I came into this fairly fit than average joe at 48. However it humbled me real fast what it takes to do all three legs in one day. I started swimming like 2-3 weeks ago. Barely got to 400 meters without stopping to breathe. This is definitely not a condition thing. It’s more breathing thing. Enjoy the process regardless how this turns out.

You are definitely part of my training. I'm finishing my first week of training for my first triathlon (sprint). I've been running for 6 years now so I have the run part down. Swim and bike is the challenge but I'm pumped up! Thanks for all the tips and tricks, Taren.

This video made me smile. I spent quite a bit of time falling over at stop signs when I was learning to clip out of my bike and I got passed by a 73 year old man in my first 70.3. From the training to crossing the finish line was a humbling and inspiring experience. If you're just starting out, don't give up.
