The problem with what that guy was doing is those two movements should require much different loads so alternating like that is really shorting the rowing motionโs capacity for resistance

That row plus side bend is fire! It woke up my lats! I have tried every row, pullover, etc to try to feel my lats with no success. Three sets of eight had my lats on fire. Thank you!

The first clip is a good for lats if you not feel pain?
I do a combo of exercises with the cable machine similar to this. First I start with the arm straight ahead, then pull the arm straight down and back like in the video; back to straight ahead, followed by what's basically a facepull and from there extend the arm straight above the head. Now I lower the arm back into the facepull position (slow and controlled and extend it back straight ahead.
Repeat from there. You barely need and weight for this, but splitting it up with different weights might be beneficial.

What he is describing is known widely as 'mind-muscle connection'. Being able to feel a muscle engage and prime/potentiate is a skill that comes with experience and thus practice. Try it. Its not only for bodybuilders but also really anyone wanting to seriously improve their lifts, development and movement.
