I always think that hip thrusts will get my glutes sore but they never really do and I'm not sure why. I think I'm doing them right; my glutes are tired at the end of the sets, I try to get the posterior hip rotation at the top, but I dunno. I do keep my feet straight now that I think of it, although I'd be surprised if that all of a sudden made me sore. But I'm gonna give it a shot next time!
The most sore glutes I get is from:
1.) Lunges
2.) Squats (back), concentrating on really contracting and focusing on glutes at the bottom
And goddang, I mean sore, as in walking funny and hurts to sit down.

I've found it necessary on the hip thrust to always push from the heels instead of anywhere else in the foot, especially toes.

I've never tried doing glute exercises with toes pointing outwards, it really makes a difference when performing this moves
