Are there “better” electrodes for this practice?
Great advice. Thanks
Thanks
As a non welder, 88 year old man trying to stick weld on my grandsons new kit, the hardest part is trying to maintain a steady welding gap. Is there any trick to do this or is it just practice and a steady hand?
I just tried to weld using a cheap stick welder for the first time a few minutes ago. Didn’t go as planned…. LOL
Is it normal for when the rod sticks to the metal and you don’t un-stick it right away for the rod to start to glow red hot and completely scorch all the flux on it black and to stink up your whole garage? ‘Cause that’s all I managed to do, I couldn’t get an arc… just a few pops and sparks and getting the rod stuck to the metal. That’s why I’m back here watching YouTube videos…. 😆
One big issue I have encountered is when the stick is new and long, and you try to strike an arc, it shakes, vibrates and bounces everywhere and you can not control it. As it gets shorter, it stiffens up and then you can run some lines better.
What is considered hot?
your videos are amazing!! Best one out there by far. thanks so much
Yeah I was about to say try that on a 7018 or 7016 still when you knock flux off without proper technique it sticks. It's easy to start up because of the iron powder on the end of rod but once that's gone unless your tip is red hot it will stick.
Thank you this did help a lot!
Thanks very helpful 👍
This advice didn't help. The only way to keep it from sticking is to beef up the amperage until the entire base material unanimously becomes a liquid immediately. 200 amps minimum for any material of any size.
Is it cheating to turn on HF start?
I'm usually jamming with it first time doing 🙀 we in highschool ahhhhh I'm still virgin Mary
Can you file the end of the rod to break the slag like you did with the machine on while holding the file in hand?
Just asking I have no idea. I’m one that would like to learn welding some day.
Thanks. I am just learning and find your tutorials very helpful.
Getting a arc is a massive pain in the harris, been trying for hours, TBH this video hasnt helped me at all, it just wants to stick.
very useful video sir
(Australian here) bought an ozito 120A arc welder – cut a long story short practiced on a piece of steel today but the electrode is melting incredibly fast as to where I need go constantly lower the rod only after a few seconds – any idea?
Day 1; sticking, stuck…over and over…now thanks to you 👍 I fixed my hammer then went on to weld two metal posts together for a fence I want to build…I did, then it crumbled apart 😄 🤔🤔 …so day 2, I’m back again! (51 yr old woman) Australia 🇦🇺
I welded for 15 yrs and hated every minute.
I worked with primadona pipe welders that needed the work site to have pillows to sit on.
Iron workers that got there training in prison.
And ship builders that worked funcatully drunk.
I almost got killed more than once.
And trade authority changes the criteria every few years
And my eyes hurt when i go in the sun with out glasses.
Stay away from welding.
Really cool pal. I'm Brazilian and an English teacher as well. Some of my students who are welders asked me to help them about the welding literature in English. And you have been helping me a great deal. Thanks again.
