I'm training to be a life guard, and this is the only thing that has me worried. Stamina is a huge problem but track is starting and I hope it will help me build it up in the pool!

I am a freshman in high school and I decided to try swim for the first time ever because I wanted to stay fit over the winter. I was swimming for not even 2 months and a big meet was coming up the we really wanted to win so I go up to my coach and say “ I would like to try to swim the 500 just to score us that extra point” and he say to me “ most freshmen are scared of the 500 and here you are, you never swam competitively before, you have only been swimming for not even 2 months I believe you can do this.” I was so scared but I did it, my first ever 500 I did in about 9 minutes. I got us that one extra point ( on a side note I was also in the back stroke and got disqualified and we lost the meet by 1 point but that is besides the point ) the point no matter how good you are you can do anything. Idk why I posted this but I hope it helps at least someone 😬😬

Today at practice I swam the 1,000 and it was amazing. I suggest practice SUPER long distance so you can get good at the 500. It helps with endurance a LOT and I’ve gotten a lot better at the 500 since training the 1,000’s

Dude I feel out of breath after one 25m freestyle bc my breath timing is awful and my breath in isnt satisfying at all. Im not in awful shape, so idk how to fix it. I have to wear the pararescue goggles so I breath out through my mouth, could this be why?
