Rotation is very important. Never you can tell enough in schools.
This is so interesting, I’ve been breathing ever third stroke my whole life. It’s how I was taught when I was a kid from my coach. Lol
At age 62, I never dreamed of getting any type of information so easily from a world class coach.
That's the good side of the internet.
When I was a kid, coaches wouldn't even talk to anyone unless they were the elite on a team.
Now this knowledge can be accessed by anyone. Amazing.
thanks mister for explained very important advices, greetings from Mexico
very informative, I'd like to see a close up of breathing in the wave because for me that is breathing in the water
Wish I could’ve had your wisdom when I was swimming 20+ years ago. Once had a coach make me repeat the practice because I wouldn’t bilaterally breath. I hated that style. My body was fighting it.
I though holding the breath as long as possible and change the breath when you rotates correct me if I am wrong

This guy is a swimming scientist ;-;… simply amazing.
Fucking Michael Phelps…
Michael Phelps and Katie Hoff are my role models! They are lucky to have Bob Bowman as their coach. I swim too!
Yaght vs tug boat
….breathing with Katie Hoff……..And who breathes into the finish better than Katie Hoff? [Ans: DON'T breathe into the finish! She chronically makes that mistake. Put your head down into the finish and blast into that wall! Calculate how long it will take you to swim that last 15-20 yards/meters—–?you can't hold your breath that long???
Hmm I usualy drink that bow wave to take a breath. When I am full of water I go home…
Posterior neck tracheotomy is another solution to that pesky having to turn your head to breathe thing.
omg thanks for that tip!!! I didn't know I was doing it wrong!!! 😃 🏊
I have a deviated nasal septum, will that affect my swimming capabilities?
2:53……90° is it not over rotating ?
i'm learning how to breathe when doing freestyle, I always got water in my ear when I rotate my head, it shocked me and ruin the whole stroke. what should I do abt this?
Is he talking about Katie Ledecky?
thank you so much for these tips i can finally get that 21 or 22 seconds i'm looking for!!!!!!!
How's it more advantageous to breath on one side if you need more air and more rotation in the stroke?
What a shame he doesn't talk about head position ! cause there's so many difference with elite swimmers…
I try only having half my face out the water to breathe but I cant breathe without taking in water
How are you more streamline on your side? That does not make sense to me.
Nice info thanks. It's amazing how it's so much more difficult than you think.
I SWAM
Good stuff
Great advice, but I wish the video quality could be better so we can see more clearly when they're zooming in for detail.
Fantastic advice from Bob Bowman. Michael Phelps has a powerful stroke and big bow wave!
Where can we purchase this DVD (or Blu-Ray)? Nobody seems to know. Much appreciated for any info.
Can you tell us what's the name of the DVD?
My trouble is actually taking the breath when rotating my head.. Not sure if that makes sense
Thank you very much this video is helping me out a lot, I have lowered my time substantially, I was at a 53 high to a low 52.
The more I try this the more chlorine water I tend to drink =(.
i find it completely natural. i just recently joined my high school swim team. and at our practices, a couple other girls and i have trouble with that. i was taught to hold my breath under water, so when coach told me i wasn't supposed to, it messed me up. if i concentrate on my breathing and exhaling and inhaling at the right times, i swerve into other lanes or also mess up my stroke. practice makes perfect.
Wow. I got to remember them.
thanks a lot! these are awesome tips….
Very helpful video, thank you
i have serious problems breathing while swimming… especially when it comes to exhaling beneath the water… I naturally hold my breath under the water. or I would release all the breath at once. If I concentrate on exhaling, my strokes gets messed up… I'm a complete beginner though.. is this natural? I also have a very explosive background as an athlete at the gym, Don't know if that may be the reason… any pointers?
I do this sometimes, and I find that it's just fun for me. It adds some variety.
Have you heard about Ultra Slimming Formula? (check it out on google) It is a quick way to burn off fat fast.
Take you breathe with one goggle in the water. Eureka moment!!!!
Thanks – very informative – I looking forward to getting back into the pool and practicing!
when I dive in the deep part of the water my eye feels like its about to explode what do I do about this?
hm, as a natural bilateral breather I never thought of breathing to one side for so many meters, then the other. anyone else tried this and do you find an advantage?
