Omg I could never figure out how to do this until I saw this video!!
Haha! I'm a brand new drummer…been watching and practicing along with your '10 beats for beginner drummers' and @5:40 is me exactly when the kick is on an off-beat! Gonna practice through it!
This is a great exercise for people like me that want to learn how to use the double bass pedal in the near future 😊
Man, I learn more in this video that I have learned on all the other videos combined what you said about imagine hitting something on the upstroke of the hi-hat as soon as I started imagining that I got it right off man. Beautiful job. Beautiful job. Beautiful job. That's all I can say man. That analogy will spot on. Thank you so much! Great job!
Neil degrasse Tyson brought me here
Awesome lesson, it's something like this my teacher told me to do weeks ago, i'm a begginer. Help me a looot!!
If you can add the sheets will be a great help for those who are visual learners like me.
Always thankful for the amazing content!!
Keep groovin!
Cheers from Brazil!!
loved it bro…..
Thanks for the tip!
I heard a little bit of independence for the first time thank you 🥹
i feel more independent just by watching the video
Wanted to say thanks man! I held my left hand up and smacked it on the up stroke of my eighth noted and was actually able to hit the 16ths with my foot! I still have a long way to go, but this bit of progress felt great today after watching your video last night!
Thanks man, After practicing this for a while I FINNALY GOT IT
Thought I was the only one who had this issue 😭
Could someone please tell me where the kick comes in during the exercise pattern 1?
When he said 100% I doubt it, but damn he’s right.
Fuckin' sweet, man! Thanks for the inspiration! 🙂
Excellent!
This is the exact help I was looking for. Thank you
Thank you so much! I've unlocked 'em! Now just gotta keep it up everyday.
Mind fucking blown DUDE thank you
Hey, your content is amazing! New subscriber here! 🙂
It's okay to be mean to that A&F, it can take it! 😂
Still struggling with the pattern but I try to do it extremely slow than what you show in the video.Still doing the same thing until today.Great exercise and example mr Rob "Beatdown" Brown
Not working
So if so am breaking down the first example grove at about 10:00 min into the video
The high hat is hitting on 1 + and
The bass is hitting at e + ah
Snare is on 1+2+3+4
Am I hearing this right?
Help.. I want to understand this tutorial but my brain isn't picking up on it…would have loved to have seen your foot on the kick pedal for this tutorial.. have been playing on and off for many years mostly off.. I'm one of those persons that stuck on uniformity instead of Independence, so my playing is rather boring.. lol
So much appreciate your video and I will check out your others.
If anybody else wants to chime in and try to help me I would greatly appreciate it…
ty this helps so much
It's funny. You just taught me how to teach what I can do. Further more though I didn't realise I was using my back stroke in the counting (actually I rairly notice my self counting at all) but songs by the likes of niel pert and the rev have got me playing off beats up to at least twice what my right hand is doing, and that IS exactly what I do.
Sounds great thanks beat down ☝️💪❤️💯
Thank you, Just thank you.
You have a gift for teaching Rob. I took lessons back in the 80's from a very, very good drummer. The problem was he wasn't a very good teacher. He assumed I knew things he was talking about when I didn't, showed me things instead of taking the time to make sure I understood them. I ended up being completely overwhelmed and discouraged. Now I'm turning fifty in a few months and am picking up the drums again after a thirty year layoff. I have been researching online instructors, I plan on picking two or three to follow instruction from. You are the best teacher I've come across by far. You keep it simple and fun without making the lesson feel like a chore. You explain things very well and you inspire me to believe I can start over and do things right this time around. I used to hate practicing, you've made me love it. Thank you so much.
😮💨 that groove in the intro
Thanks man helped alot
when you did the thing with the cow bell, my whole world exploded and my brain was able to travel through dimensions
Great sounding snare drum Rob! Who makes it? 🥁🎼👍
thanks for this! I had my FIRST drum lesson last night at 50 years old. Drum lover my entire life. My instructor was testing me to see where I was at and I got hung up precisely with this. This will be very helpful.
This is fantastic insight. Thank you.
Thanks for that help man 👊💪👍
It's funny how just one song will cause me to hyper-focus on something. The Little River Band – Night Owls. The opening has 1/8 notes on the ride with a double kick on the kick drum and my ride hand cannot help but follow my foot. That led me here. Of course Rob always has my attention. I may just need some more merch! lol
Great Stuff. Those beats at the beginning are just amazing. Taking this one step further, are there exercises or a video to teach left and right hand independence introducing something such as triplets over an 8th note beat? I play worship at my church and notice alot of the newer modern worship is tom heavy with crazy rhythms (16th and 8th note triplets on rack and floor toms) over a steady 8th note ride or crash. Appreciate all you do.
Kinda wish you had the charts up so I could practice easier on my own
I don't know about all that, some of us are more natural than others.
First time here and I loved you within 3 seconds LOL
